Famous TexansGovernor James Hogg
Ima Hogg

Father and daughter. Both famous. Both Texan.

James (Jim) Stephen Hogg. First native born governor of Texas. Champion of the public against powerful corporate interests. Created Texas Railroad Commission in an effort to exert control the powerful railroad industries then monopolizing U.S. transportation and commerce. Governor Hogg passed the second anti-trust legislation by any state in U.S., several years before the federal government could be persuaded to take any actions against influential lobbying.

Ima Hogg, philanthropist, patron of the arts and pioneer in the movement for the preservation of Texas heritage and culture, daughter of Governor Jim Stephen Hogg. Her home, Bayou Bend in Houston and given to the people of Texas, is one of the state's great architectural treasures. Houston police provide less than a non-threatening welcome to visitors throughout the year.
